Abstract: Ethical Reason for Human Research
                        Professor Emeritus Dr. Siddhi Butr-Indr
Fellow of The Academy of Moral and Political Sciences,
                        The Royal Society of Thailand

According to Buddhist philosophy, man is ‘Venaiyasat’ (Veneyyasatto),
the living being bestowed with privileged capacities, being able to develop
‘human science’ for leading life and occupational workings in both religious
and world-ling ways. Based on this principle, man can develop a life in various
respects and at different levels. Man is the one who takes responsibility for his
own actions which affects himself as well as the others. With his own endeavor,
he should get into the process and the step of learning to research by which he

can reach the objeclives of human science. The man was also bestowed with
another qualification, that is, desire for ever lasting learning. Since birth, he seeks
for and cultivates arts and science, taming with experiment thought, having
curiosity, and seeking after the truth for his whole life to solve the world and life
problems, with questions what, how, why and what for, which is corresponding
to Philosophy–love of wisdom in the western sense. Logic and ethics were
encouraged in both theory and practice in order to enable one to reach the
value and use of Ethical Reason for Human Research which indicated that
‘Knowledge and Virtue come along together’ which is based on Humanism and

Rationalism, and is emphasized particularly in the field of health-science.
At the present, most research works aimed at ‘the academic excellence
but lack of noble behavior’ allowing fellow men to harm nature or even human
beings, holding enemy attitude, plunging natural resources for one own benefit,
regarding human beings as equal to other inanimate resources by terming as
Human Resource, in order to reciprocate insatiable one own greed under the
