Abstract: “Tra” in Pi Phaat ensemble to represent Gods summoning in the ceremony

Pi Phat ensemble is a type of Thai musical ensemble, mainly perform in
teacher respected ceremony of Thai traditional music, Khon and Lakhon
performance, which musical form in Pi Phat performing is depend on the

ceremony master. In the ceremony, several masters of Gods are regarded as
the God of Thai traditional music and performance, such as Lord Shiva, Lord
Vishnu, Lord Brahma, Uma Devi, and Sarasvati Devi. Tra is a type of song that
performs to represent Musical Gods' summoning, and each God had a specific
Tra. For example, Tra Lord Shiva, Tra Uma Devi, Tra Phra Prakhontap, Tra Phra
Panjasingkhon, Tra Phra Vishnu, Tra Phra Ganesh, Tra Makavan, Tra Sannibaat.
The Tra is typically recognized as it starts with Tra followed by God's name

except Ong Phra Phirap song, composed for Shiva avatar, which did not begin
with Tra. The teacher respected the ceremony beginning with the holy words,
which vowing by the master of ceremony, followed by the performing of Tra
for each God of Music by Pi Phat ensemble. The Tra represents the summoning
of Gods in the ceremony. The last song in the ceremony is Phleng Auk,
which had intense sounds and melody of Phleng Rua La Deaw or Rua Sam La.
The final section shows Gods' supernatural power, which means that all Gods
of music are already gathering in the ceremony.
