                Abstract: Buddhadharma, an approach to Nirvāṇa: A case study of the

                           Saundarananda-mahākāvyam composed by Aśvaghoṣa

                                  The Saundarananda-mahākāvyam is a Sanskrit poem composed by

                           As�vaghos�a to present the story of Prince Nanda, the gorgeous prince
                           with sensual desires, who is unexpectedly ordained by the Buddha after

                           recently married. However, due to the Buddhist strategy, he can overcome
                           the conflict in his mind and successfully be on the path to Nirvān�a.

                           This article aims to present principles the Buddha provides Prince Nanda
                           beginning with the precept until he gets wisdom to emancipate the

                           defilments and becomes Arahant. As�vaghos�a, the great poet, profoundly
                           presented the essence of Dharma and explicitly reflects the liberation by

                           wisdom which is its main idea. Therefore, The Saundarananda-mahākāvyam
                           composed by As�vaghos�a is an incomparable poem of the intellectual value.
