The International Journal of the Royal Society of Thailand
                                                                                         Volume XII, 2020

No matter what practice was used, students were expected to develop
beautiful penmanship, in accordance with the Thai traditional belief that “beautiful
penmanship” is the symbol of a gentleman. (Fine Arts Department, 1964)

At present, penmanship seems to have been abandoned as a result of the
new technology. Now one can type on a keyboard or touch the screen to select

any beautiful font, and this can be done rapidly, like pouring ingredients from
a bag rather than cooking on a stove.

Since 2016 Finnish students no longer practice handwriting; instead,
they practice touch-typing. Keyboard typing uses a fundamental algorithm,
linking the user to the machine directly, with nothing in between.
