                  Volume XVI-2024 (Special Issue)

The Privy Council comprises H.E. General Surayud Chulanont, President of the Privy Council,

and 18 other privy councilors who carry out the royal commands and execute the royal initiatives
for the benefit and happiness of the people.
Just three months after the passing of His Majesty the King Rama IX, the present King

met his Privy Council officially on 23 January 2017. The King gave assignments individually to
the privy councilors, according to their expertise and experiences, in order to help carry out the
royal projects initiated by the late King, to preserve the effective management, and to enhance

the overall productivity, according to the initial royal command mentioned above.
The Privy Council has weekly meetings to assess the progress and problems in the
royal projects and to brainstorm so that the projects can proceed effectively. The Privy Council

handles petitions from the people suffering from various conditions. After verifying each petition,
the Privy Council will first respond to ease people’s sufferings and then find ways to solve

problems by root cause analysis. Examples of petitions include shortage of water for agriculture
and farming, health-related problems, available lands for dwelling and agriculture, and poverty.
The Privy Council reports all of these petitions to His Majesty the King and receives his royal
advice for appropriate actions to assure effective solutions.

Solving health-related problems is of utmost importance in raising the quality of life.
His Majesty the King and the Royal Institution have provided numerous projects to help

the government. The 21 Crown Prince Hospitals have been operating for the past 48 years,
starting when the present King was the Crown Prince. These hospitals provide medical services
for the public and some even receive the Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation for

the hospital quality. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Their Majesties the King and the Queen
have donated more than 1,200 million Bahts to various projects to provide medical equipments,
supplies, and supports to medical services and medical personnels in order to serve the sick

and to alleviate the shortage situation. In addition, His Majesty the King also established
the Kanjanabaramee Foundation in 2012 to help screen women at risks for breast cancer
throughout the country. Moreover, His Majesty the King established the Ratchathan Pun Suk

Project (the Good Health Good Hearts Project) in 2019 to help the sick inmates to return to
society in good health once they completed their sentences.
Because of his vision on the importance of education to the country, His Majesty the King

has been providing scholarships to Thai students via the Crown Prince Royal Scholarships
Foundation (Mor Tor Sor.) since 2009 when he was the Crown Prince. His Majesty the King
has already given scholarships of nearly 800 million Bahts to more than 2,400 recipients from

the entire country. Those who perform well in addition to being good citizens can continue to
higher education and work for the government. Afterwards, His Majesty the King even meet with

them in person to encourage their altruistic service for the country.
