Foreword
President of the Royal Society of Thailand
The year 2024 marks an auspicious occasion for Thailand as the nation celebrates the
nd
72 birthday anniversary, also known as the sixth cycle, of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn
Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua (Rama X) on July 28, 2024. In honor of this milestone, this special issue
of the International Journal of the Royal Society of Thailand (IJRSTh) joins the nation in expressing
gratitude to His Majesty the King, whose unwavering dedication and steadfast commitment to
numerous remarkable initiatives have brought peace, prosperity, and transformative progress to
the Thai people.
This issue of the IJRSTh features articles highlighting the invaluable contributions of
His Majesty the King, the enduring legacy of the Royal Institution, and their profound impact on
the nation across diverse fields. Many of these articles are English adaptations of works originally
published in Thai in the commemorative book, The Royal Institution and Academic Advancement
of the Nation. (สถาบันพระมหากษัตริย์กับวิวัฒนาการทางวิชาการของประเทศ).
Established in 1926 by King Rama VII, The Royal Society of Thailand serves as the nation’s
preeminent academic institution, comprising three distinguished academies: the Academy of
Moral and Political Sciences, the Academy of Science, and the Academy of Arts. Fellows of
the Society are royally appointed as Scholars of the King, selected from associate fellows who
are recognized for their expertise and are leaders in their respective academic fields. Today,
the Royal Society continues its vital mission of providing academic counsel to the government
and disseminating knowledge to the public through various endeavors.
