The International Journal of the Royal Society of Thailand

                                                                                       Volume XVI-2024 (Special Issue)

His Majesty the King grants his permission to the Privy Council to carry on the Royal Initiative

Projects of His Majesty the King Rama IX and to improve the management by collaboration
with the government via the Office of the Royal Development Projects Board (ORDPB or in Thai
“Gor Por Ror”). The Privy Council assigns one member to be a consultant in this particular

board, in addition to at least one Privy Councilor to look after each Royal Initiative Project to
ensure the effective management and to improve the results of the project. Special meetings
can be called urgently to address important issues. At present, the Privy Council emphasizes

the improvement of Rajabhat Universities in the development of the rural areas in terms of
                   effective education and national security.
The Royal Project Foundation established by His Majesty the King Rama IX has followed

the philosophy of self-sufficient economy and the principle of “Understanding, Empathy,
and Development” for the past 50 years in order to solve many critical problems involving

poverty, illegal farming, inequality, and environmental degradation in the Northern part of
Thailand. Under the leadership of the late His Majesty the King Rama IX, the Royal Project
set up a record of accomplishment over the past 50 years to transform highland communities
from poverty-stricken to self-sufficient, by providing crop substitutions away from illicit

narcotic plants, ultimately contributing to the overall security and sustainability of the country.
His Majesty the King Rama X has continued the Royal Project and put tremendous effort to

improve the management of the foundation with the help from the Privy Council.
The Royal Initiative “Doing Good Deeds for Country and People” Volunteers was
established when His Majesty the King instructed the King’s Private Offices 904 to set it up

with the purpose of encouraging unity and happiness among the people and stability for
                                                                st
the country as a whole. Furthermore, the 1 King’s Own Bodyguard Regiment together with
courtiers of the royal household and volunteers from the general public under the project

“Good Deeds from the Heart” helped to clean up and improve the small communities around
the Dusit Palace. The activities gradually expand to other parts of the country in a steady and
sustainable way. There are three types of volunteers – development-related, disaster-related,

                   and Ad Hoc volunteers.
The public may not be aware of all royal initiatives in the reign of His Majesty the King
Rama X such as the improvement of water quality along the canals in Bangkok Metropolitan.

The Privy Council will help to make all the Royal Initiatives visible to the public.
                         Long Live the King!
