The Crown Prince Hospitals started out in the form of community hospitals, previously
named district hospital. At present, 771 community hospitals are under the office of the permanent
secretary, Ministry of Publich Health according to the database kept by the Health Administration
Division on 15 March 2024. (Health Administration Division, 2024) It is quite an achievement that
the crown prince hospitals, established 47 years ago as a prototype of community hospitals,
have increased their capacity from 30 beds to 466 beds. (Figure 1) Four of them have upgraded
to general hospitals including Sa Kaeo Crown Prince Hospital in Sa Kaeo province (466 beds),
Det Udom Crown Prince Hospital in Ubon Ratchathani province (363 beds), Sawang Daen Din
Crown Prince Hospital in Sakon Nakhon province (276 beds), and Thabo Crown Prince Hospital
in Nong Khai province (266 beds) (Crown Prince Hospital Foundation, 2017)
