On January 17, 2024, at 5:19 p.m., Their Majesties the King and Queen traveled by royal
vehicle from the Amphorn Sathan Throne Hall, Dusit Palace, to preside over the opening of
the exhibition “Weaving Our Stories: 190 Years of Diplomatic Relations between the United States
and Thailand” at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, Pathum Wan District, Bangkok.
This exhibition commemorates the 190 anniversary of diplomatic relations between
th
Thailand and the United States, which fell in the year 2023. The exhibition is organized by the U.S.
Embassy in Thailand in collaboration with C-ASEAN in cooperation with the Support Foundation
of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother, and the Queen Sirikit Museum of Textiles,
with support from private sectors in both countries. The centerpiece of the exhibition highlights
textile art and narratives that reflect the enduring friendship between the two nations,
titled “Time Owes Us Remembrance” is created by Thai-American artist Ms. Amanda
Phuengpotipakkhiya, who was inspired by the artistry and beauty of Thai textiles from the
Queen Sirikit Museum of Textiles as well as Her Majesty Queen Sirikit’s dedication to preserving
Thai textile traditions. The artwork celebrates the cultural heritage, shared values, Thai lifestyle
and enduring ties between the people of Thailand and the United States.
Through its intricate and exquisite textile art, the exhibition symbolizes the deep
connection and long-standing friendship between the two countries, from their historical roots
to the present day, and into the future like the long diplomatic relationship between Thailand
and the United States of America.
