During her reign, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom made an official
visit to Thailand, accompanied by her husband, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, as guests of
His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother.
Queen Elizabeth II visited Thailand twice: from February 9 to 15, 1972, and from
October 28 to November 1, 1996, the year marking His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej
the Great’s 50th anniversary on the throne.
In 2006, during the 60 anniversary of King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great’s accession to
th
the throne, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II graciously appointed Prince Andrew, Duke of York,
to represent her at the celebrations. Following the King’s passing in 2016, Her Majesty Queen
Elizabeth II again appointed Prince Andrew to represent her at the royal cremation ceremony.
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II passed away on September 8, 2022, marking a significant
loss for the United Kingdom and the world. His Majesty the King expressed deep sorrow over
her passing, sending a message of condolence to His Majesty King Charles III. His Majesty also
directed the Royal Household Bureau to organize a ceremony to pay respects in front of
the portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at Mani Nopparat Gate, in front of the Grand Palace.
Flower vases from Their Majesties the King and Queen were presented during the tribute,
joined by officials and citizens mourning her passing.
Reflecting the close and long-standing relationship between the two royal families,
His Majesty the King sent a congratulatory message to His Majesty King Charles III on October 1,
2022, following his accession to the throne on September 10, 2022.
Their Majesties the King and Queen of Thailand visited the United Kingdom at the invitation
of His Majesty King Charles III from May 4 to 7, 2023, to attend the coronation ceremony of
His Majesty King Charles III and Her Majesty Queen Camilla at Westminster Abbey in London.
This marked Their Majesties’ first official overseas visit since the coronation in 2019, aiming
at further strengthening the bonds between the two monarchies and nations. (www.royaloffice.th)
