Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier has served as President of the Federal Republic of Germany
since 2017. Prior to his presidency, he held prominent roles as Minister of Foreign Affairs and
Vice Chancellor of Germany.
Thailand and the Federal Republic of Germany have had a long-standing good relationship
since the Kingdom of Siam and the Kingdom of Prussia, or the Federal Republic of Germany,
established diplomatic relations in 1862. They celebrated 150 years of diplomatic relations
in 2012 and 160 years in 2022. Both sides have close relations at the royal, governmental and
public levels. Cooperation between Thailand and the Federal Republic of Germany covers
all fields. In addition to being an important strategic economic partner for Thailand, there is
also cooperation in education, culture, the environment, science, technology and innovation,
which are important pillars of the relations of both countries.
