During the last decade, Thailand, as the rest of the world, has been facing
economic uncertainty. At the present time, Thailand is facing Problem of
unemployment among highly trained persons. In today’s society, the essentials of
human existence still involve food, energy, a livable environment, and security for
one’s self and loved ones. The currently expansion of the Covid-19 created crisis
in the society. When there is a climate of uncertainty in the society, people must
fight for survival, resulting in a selfishness which has created mutual hatred,
hostility and distrust among Thai citizens. These changes in ethical values has
been observed in the young generation. Most educators have come to realize that
moral values must be introduced at all levels of education immediately. They
agree that while science has added to the richness of life, social improvement
makes creative life possible.
Many research projects have been carried out in order to answer the
problems of morality and ethical values. Most researches indicate that there are
ethical crises, The office of the National Education Commission has funded
research projects concerning ethical values in order to seek the right values for
the new generation in Thai society. One of the projects is Moral Behavior in
Contemporary Thai society: A social psychological approach” (Wichavut C,
Uwanno T, Sirivnnabood P, 1984). The results of this research indicate that most
Thais know how they should behave, but they find it very difficult to overcome
temptation. The purpose of this research was to survey moral cognition, moral
reaction and moral behavior, in order to investigate potential morality in the
future Thai society Even the research had been studied more than fifteen years,
but moral behavior on of Thai population have not changed
From the previous researches mentioned earlier, educators try to convey
religious messages in the curriculum. By the same token, Buddhadasa stated that
“Buddhism is a system, designed to bring a technical knowledge in separable from
its technique of practice, an organized practical understanding of the true nature
of things or what is what.” (Buddhadasa, 1982: 2)
Buddhadasa developed his conception of “intuitive insight” that
Buddhadhamma can be realized only through insight. It transcends physics,
or in other words is “Meta-physics.” It is not perceived by the normal stresses
of hearing vision, smelling, taste, or touching, It can be perceived only by intuition
(Buddhadasa, 1982: 17).
