The International Journal of the Royal Society of Thailand

                                                                                       Volume XVI-2024 (Special Issue)

technology more efficiently by teaching students how to study, think, and perform; as well as

appreciate the value of the environment, analyze and synthesize data, and how to be creative
and innovative. For example, the young scientist’s home project provided students in remote

areas with equal access to science education, compared to their peers. At present, there are more
than 12,000 schools participating in this project with the hope that children will learn science

more effectively and grow up to be adults with scientific minds in the future. This project receives
supports from universities with students in master and PhD programs volunteering as mentors.

Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn is deeply interested in information technology (IT). She was
self-educated in IT because she realized how IT played an important role in improving education

as well as the quality of life among the underserved. Initiating IT education in rural schools,
the princess enabled personnels to be proficient in using computers, computer maintenance,

and repair. The personnels in Rajabhat Universities were assigned to be mentors for the schools
in their areas with the hope that these schools in the project could stand on their own one day.

Usually small rural schools are short of teachers, resulting in one teacher teaching several
subjects, which he or she may not be comfortable with. Moreover, they also lack equipments

or varioius medias for teaching. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, therefore, established
“the distance learning television (DLTV) project,” which provides an online learning (e-Learning)

system, and thus much convenience for rural students. The electronic distance learning
television (e-DLTV) project has been incorporated into the information technology project

                   since 2007.
Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn has established many scientific projects in various fields

leading to continued advancement of science in Thailand. She pays close attention and closely
monitors these projects, in order to ensure the improvement of life among Thai people so they

can have complete, balanced, and sustained happiness. (The Information Technology Foundation
under the Initiative of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, 2024)

Princess Chulabhorn is a professor in chemistry who has distinguished works on chemical
carcinogen and research in toxicology affecting environment. She graduated with a Ph.D. in organic

chemistry from Mahidol University. Subsequently, she worked as a postdoctoral researcher
at many universities abroad, such as Ulm University in Germany (genetic engineering), Kyoto

University in Japan (cancer treatment), and MIT in the United States (toxicology), etc.
She received many awards and honors such as Albert Einstein Gold Medal from the UNESCO

in 1986 and awards for research in chemistry and environment from various universities such as
Australia, the United States, Japan, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Russia, Korea, and France.
