Since the establishment of the Science Society of Thailand, the missions have been as
follows:
1) Promote the founding of any organization and policy regarding science and technology.
For example, support the establishment of National Research Council, Ministry of Science,
Technology, and Environment (Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation,
at present); cooperate to establish The Council of Scientific and Technological Associations of
Thailand (COSTAT), and the Thai Academy of Science and Technology; establish the Foundation
for the Promotion of Science and Technology under the Patronage of His Majesty the King,
the Academic Olympiad and Development of Science Education Foundation under the
patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana Krom Luang Naradhiwas Rajanagarindra,
the Thai Academy of Science and Technology Foundation; initiate and take part in drafting
the Act on Science and Technology Professions
2) Promote activities in science and technology such as indoor and outdoor activities
for junior scientist groups or youth camps, science week fair, and sending youth to compete or
participate activities abroad
3) Raise awareness and disseminate knowledge in science and technology such as
recognizing King Rama IV with a title “Father of Thai Science,” establishing National Science
Day on 18 August yearly, organizing National Science Week Fair, proposing the establishment of
King Mongkut Memorial Park of Science and Technology at Waghor subdistrict, Prachuap Khiri
Khan province, publishing the society works through scientific journals and radio programs or
workshops by the Science writers and book producers club (Nor Jor Wor Tor)
4) Promote the development of human resource in science and technology such as training
teachers by the society or branches, contest or competition among students at secondary school
and university levels, and the Academic Olympiad Project
5) Promote the development of research such as the publication of Science Asia Journal,
the Congress on Science and Technology of Thailand (STT or Wor Tor Tor in Thai)
6) Awards and honors such as the Senior Scientist Award, the Outstanding Science Teacher
Award, and initiate the Outstanding Scientist Award
7) Create networking with allied organization nationally and internationally. (Science Society

Princess Galyani Vadhana Krom Luang Naradhiwas Rajanagarindra made a great
contribution to the Academic Olympiad Project from day one back in 1989 when the
president of the Science Society of Thailand had to campaign to raise funds and select student
representatives to compete in the International Mathematical Olympiad. The princess donated
