The communication strategies were closely tied to broader national development goals.
The agencies and infrastructure were leveraged to promote education, public health,
and environmental conservation, (Puaksom, 2007) demonstrating the monarchy’s holistic
approach to national progress. This integration ensured that the advancements in communication
directly contributed to the welfare of the Thai people, aligning with the monarchy’s dedication
to public service and societal well-being.
The development of key communication agencies under the auspices of the Thai monarchy
illustrates a proactive approach to embrace technological advancements while ensuring that
these developments align with the country’s broader developmental agendas. This has not only
enhanced Thailand’s communication landscape but also supported the monarchy’s enduring
commitment to fostering national unity (Kasetsiri, 2023) and development.
Innovative Uses of Media by the Monarchy
The innovative deployment of media by the Thai Monarchy has been a cornerstone
in its strategic communication, aiming to promote national culture, mobilize societal efforts,
and spearhead development initiatives. Historically, the monarchy has utilized media as a bridge
to foster cultural heritage and engage the Thai population in national development dialogues,
embracing a blend of traditional and digital media platforms to enhance its reach and effectiveness.
Media initiatives under the monarchy have often targeted key development areas such as
the economy, agriculture, public health, and environmental sustainability. One significant
example is the active use of televised broadcasts during important national days and royal
events, where the King’s speeches and royal activities are broadcast live, providing a direct line
of communication to the public (Chitbundid, 2023). These broadcasts serve not only as a tool
for information dissemination but also as a platform for the monarchy to outline developmental
visions and national directives.
In the digital age, the monarchy’s approach to media usage has evolved to include digital
platforms, which are employed to engage more effectively with the younger demographic and
to promote dialogue on developmental issues. The establishment of digital channels and social
media accounts associated with the royal family allows for a more dynamic and immediate
connection with the public, facilitating a two-way communication stream (BBC Thailand,
August 13, 2020) that supports transparency and public participation in royal-led initiatives.
This strategic use of media by the Thai monarchy not only underscores its role in
preserving and promoting cultural heritage (Lertpipattworakul, 2021; The Thai Encyclopedia
for youth Project, 2013) but also highlights its adaptability to modern communication trends.
By leveraging both traditional and new media, the monarchy continues to play a pivotal role
