287 Proceedings of the Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Congress ART ACTIVITIES DEVELOPED FOR ENHANCING SELF-ESTEEM ON THIRD GRADE SCHOOL ORPHANS Areerat Mukdamontri, Lertsiri Bovornkitti and Kanobbhorn Sangvanich Abstract: This experimental research study was to develop 10 art activities purposively use in 10 art sessions for enhancing self-esteem of orphans. The population selection criteria was based on the children’s orphan status, and thus five third grade school orphans aged 8 - 9 years old of Dharnnamjai Foundation inTakua Pa district, Phang-nga province, were selected.Themethodology is to compare the pretest-posttest results to test their self-esteem levels and analyze their behaviors which associated with self-esteem through observation during their art-making sessions, in order to see if their self-esteem has been improved. The Research yielded results as follows: 1. Ten art activities as follows; a) Good children memorandum, b) Let us be friends, c) Friendly Faces, d) Tree of Virtue, e) Little Plant pot of a dream tree, f) Adding up my future, g) Drawing one another, h) Pleasurable table and chair, i)My homely Andaman Sea, j) Open-minded party crown, were developed and used consecutively for enhancing self-esteem in grade three orphanage students.Their self-esteemwas significantly improved as their art-making performance revealed positive behaviors on self-importance, self-respect, self-confidence, and positive thinking with good attitudes. 2. A comparative pretest-posttest result after their art activities sessions showed statistic significance at .05, indicated that the five grade three orphanage students’ self-esteem were significantly increased. The research proved that art activities can be applied to work with psychological changes, and in this case were modeled for the uses of enhancing self-esteem in orphans. Family is a beginning place for a child to undergo behavioral development and nourishment, to grow up to become a competent adult and proper citizen of the society. (Poonsook Vejwithan, 2014: 51 - 56) Children population requires good family bringing up with proper development of body and mind, as much as the orphans with special care also require the same development. This type of care requires collaboration of works from all social sectors to find ways of providing such care, under the National Economy and Society Development Plan no. 11: 2012 - 2016 within the National Promotion of Children and Adolescence Strategic Plan Act no. 11: 2007, as to bring up
