Tables, Figures and Illustrations

• Tables should be numbered and referred to in the text by their numbers. Table
captions should be brief, with descriptions of experimental detail(s) given di-

rectly beneath, in parentheses. Column headings, the units of measurement,
and any numerical factors should be placed at the head of each column. Units
should be contained within parentheses – for example, distance (cm).

• Figures and images should clarify or shorten the text. They must be sent in an
electronic format that is acceptable for reproduction and is of high quality, such
as .tif and .jpg. Figures, illustrations, and online images from other sources
must be fully acknowledged in the caption, and written permission sought
before use. Any violation of copyright rules is the author’s own.
