The International Journal of the Royal Society of Thailand
                                                                                         Volume XI - 2019

                                                    Foreword
The President of the Royal Society of Thailand

The Royal Society of Thailand is the supreme national academy established
by King Rama VII in 1926. The society comprises three institutions, namely the
Academy of Science, the Academy of Moral and Political Sciences, and the Academy
of Arts, in which fellows and associate fellows are appointed as the royal
scholars—i.e., scholars of the King of Thailand. Up until now, the Royal Society
of Thailand has been responsible for the academic advisory role for the Thai
government and has contributed to public awareness as Thai reference center,
which provides a wide variety of intellectual resources, including scientific
dictionaries, Thai language dictionary, textbooks, booklets, encyclopedia as
well as periodic journals in Thai and English. In addition, knowledge is also
distributed through other media, such as radio and television broadcasting and
                various platforms of social media.

The International Journal of the Royal Society of Thailand (IJRST) is the
official journal of the Royal Society of Thailand. Currently, it is available online
under an open-access scheme; therefore, everyone is able to access knowledge
without border or barrier. The present issue covers the state-of-the-art discipline
in biomedical science known as “precision medicine”, which is an emerging model
for medical diagnosis, intervention, counseling and treatment based on patients’
genetic background and interaction between genetics and environment. Several
articles have shed light on the advancement of precision or personalized medicine
for treatments of neurological, endocrine, renal and neoplastic diseases. Meanwhile,
it is mandatory to establish the corresponding ethical standards, laws and judicial
proceedings for issues related to advanced medical technologies. In the foreseeable
future, precision medicine certainly becomes a new normal for medical practice
in Thailand and contributes to strengthen Thai public health.
