293 Proceedings of the Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Congress These characteristics are analogue to Rosenberg’s theory of self-esteem that the feelings of self-esteem will manifest through inner-self feelings evolving self-respect, self-confidence, as well as, self-evaluation in both positive and negative ways, all are associated with a standard comparison on social condition and group’s characteristics (Rosenberg, 1979: 31). It is evident that each samples’ behavioral characteristic of self-esteem was different, which may be based on their personal tastes and previous experiences. As the samples went through each art session, their self-esteem characteristics disclosed upon their behavioral expressions. This is because the art activities comforted them and opened up their expressions, especially their imagination and feelings were working well in these suitable and non-complicated art-making. In addition, the art activities provided good opportunities to the samples to learn their own identities and able to accept their differences without comparing with each other, and developed great intrapersonal quality. They were stimulated to use creative thinking and practiced concentration, as said by Wiroon Tangcharoen that “art can develop physical, being move and relax during the art-making process, develop mind quality and thinking skill, aesthetic skill, social skill, intrapersonal skill, that develop better society (Wiroon Tangcharoen, 1998, and this associated with what Lertsiri Bovornkitti had said that art therapy theory was basically central on the symbolic language uses in art (two-dimensional and three-dimensional art) associated with own subconscious expression of conflicts which effected one’s mind. Thus, art therapy can change improper behavior to proper behavior (Lertsiri Bovornkitti, 2010: 30) Notes There are some interesting observations from this research as follows: 1. The art activities have made useful impact on the samples. The orphans have had good impression and memories, improved their self-esteem, learn the art-making activities with good experiences, able to make expressions of feelings and ideas, as well as, they were proud of their works. 2. Artmaterials andmedia are a good source of inspiration and stimulation for the orphans to have their interests on the art activities, and active on the works. 3. The orphans can easily followed the art-making procedures on each activity from easy to difficult tasks, as the activities were developed with great concern of their age development. 4. The art activities permitted the orphans to work freely or used own expressions, hence their products were of different varieties. Recommendations 1. The researcher must collect as much personal information of the samples as possible, in order to understand the historical background of the individual well, to avoid mistakes. 2. Art activities that enhance self-esteem should be developed and used regularly with orphans.
