Abstract A Music Curriculum of Western Music Teaching Utilizing Kodály’s and Orff’s Methods in Elementary Education at Wat Laksi School Twatchai Narkwong Associate Fellow of the Academy of Arts, The Royal Institute, Thailand The objectives of this study were 1 ) to evaluate the abilities of students who completed grade 6 in 2004, after they had studied music by Kodály’s and Orff’s methods for 6 years, to see whether they were able to read music, sing, and play recorders well enough. Music supervisors from (The Bangkok Metropolitan) and teachers from public schools were invited to evaluate the student’s abilities. And 2) to build a sample music curriculum, utilizing Kodály’s and Orff’s methods, to teach music reading in elementary schools (grades 1-6). Video tapes of every class from grades 1-6 were gathered. The results shows that 1) the music supervisors and teachers who were invited were very satisfied with the student’s abilities in reading music, singing, and playing recorder (average score of 4.84 from a rating scale of 1-5). And 2) 73 video tapes of every class from grades 1-6 were gathered and are now ready to distribute. Teachers who are interested may contact Wat Laksi School. Key words : Kodály, Orff
