Most of the arrangements were not quite accepted among conservative Thai music lovers, because the use of musical idioms did not fit properly with those of the traditional Thai practice. Only two of themusicians, namely, Mrs. Sumitra Sucharitkul and Col. Choochart Pitaksakornwere capable of doing such work of high quality for piano solo. Both of them were well educated in music of both Western and Thai tradition. This article will focus on the music analysis of their selected arrangements. Despite their minor differences in the use of Western harmony and in musical styles, their arrangements, however, preserve the most essential musical features of the Thai tradition: highly ornamenting melodic figures, idiomatic melodic progressions and prevailing phrases on the underlying repeated cycle of rhythmic patterns. In addition, seeking for pianists equipped with calibre to manipulate the arranged works is another problem, though. Key words : Thai classical music, piano arrangements, piano solo
