Abstract Written Forms That Should and Should Not Be Changed Nitaya Kanchanawan Associate Fellow of the Academy of Arts, The Royal Institute, Thailand One of the commissions of The Royal Institute of Thailand is to compile an official Thai - Thai language dictionary. So far three editions of the official dictionary have been released. More words have been included and some of the spellings have been changed due to the fact that Thai is a living, changing language. At present, however, some words are spelled in different forms. This is because some of the words have certain linguistic reasons for their spelling, while others, especially those on the Internet, are spelled out wrongly due to various reasons, i.e. carelessness, the desire to avoid vulgarity, etc. It is worth considering the inclusion of the former which are based on certain linguistic reasons in the next edition of the dictionary. Key words : spelling, the use of short sound marker (mai tai khu), the written form of short and long vowels
