The Naïve Art artists are self-taught and self-learned in order to create their work only with the skills they acquired through practice. However schooling is not an impedance to the style-some schooled artists are still able to create the art if they so choose. The father of this new style of Naïve Arts is Henri Julien Félix Rousseau (French, 1844-1910). Rousseau was working as a custom agent before he began to learn about oil-painting. His works had a strong resemblance to a child’s paintings, only with a deep philosophy. Though he never attended any art schools, he still worked in a meticulous and well thought-out process from initial research to arranging composition. Rousseau’s works possess a uniqueness that is comparable to none.
