An Introduction to Contemporary De- bates. Paul Chapman Publishing. Abstract Marxism Chatchai Pongprayoon Fellow of Academy of Moral and Political Sciences, The Royal Institute, Thailand Marxism is introduced into the academic circle in the 70’s due to the dissatisfaction of the old paradigm the fails to solve the spatial problem. The new generation grographers who perceive Marxism as possible means to eradicate the inequality, the poverty, the urban problems including the spatial development and the new relationship between human and environment. Marxism is based upon three basic principles : labor power, social structure and a moving forward of the society with internal conflicts. Labor entering means of production leads to social consciousness politics and culture in accordance with the mode of production. Contraditions are the moving principles of social life giving rise to the struggles conficts and crisis endemic to class societies. Marxism, a newCommunism is born out of development path of the dying societies- gathering-hunting, kin ordered tribal agriculture, Feudalism, and Capitalism, the last stop along the path to socialism. The application of Marxist ideologies to academic research and social praxis by no means faces any serious obstacles as expected by the radicals.
