ÚıÙ˘ Abstract Capitalism of Thai Democracy and the Crisis of October 14, 1973 Nongyaow Jittaputta Associate Professor of History, Department of History, Faculty of Arts, Silpakorn University This article examines the impact of economic development under the capitalism of Thai democracy, a manifestation of dictatorship, upon the crisis that took place on October 14, 1973. The study shows that the social structure changed drastically because of substantial development of infrastructure in the rural areas. However, the dictatorship hindered people’s involvement in democratic activities. Therefore, demonstrations were used as a means to claim their rights and freedom that eventually led to military actions.
