ÚıÙ˘ Abstract Rural Areas and Poverty Problem: Human Ecological Perspective Manas Suwan Associate Fellow of the Academy Moral and Political Sciences, The Royal Institute, Thailand Rural poverty is one among the important obstacles in national economic development. Organizations of both governmental and non-governmental sectors have been trying to eradicate such obstacles. Surprisingly, the poors are still found here and there. Two factors, i.e. lack of understanding in the nature of rural poverty and employing of measures that not fit with the context of the areas, are believed to be the causes of the failure in abolishing the obstacles. Ways and principles in solving the poverty problems should be reviewed, theoretically and practically. What presented in this paper are of three main parts. The first part is the understanding about the nature and meaning of “ rural poverty ”. Then, the human ecological analysis of the causal factors and the suggested solutions are followed respectively.
