Úıı Abstract Human Geography and Postmodernism Chatchai Pongprayoon Fellow of the Academy of Moral and Political Sciences, The Royal Institute, Thailand Postmodernism is a complex and contested term something that none understand the same. Some refer to a combination of different ideas , a way of understanding the world or a revolt against the rationality of modernism. It questions about authority , knowledge or truth. No one theory can be sufficient for explaining all occurrences of a phenomenon. Postmodernism is thus concerned with developing an attitude towards knowledge , methods , theories and communication. In relation to Human Geography , a postmodern approach encourages analysis of a socio-spatial relations within a specific context as suggested by an influential geographer Michael Dear. He contended that if geography failed to engage with social theory , it would become isolated within the social sciences and risked its own survival as a university subject. Key words : postmodernism , authority , knowledge , human geography , social theory
