Initial consonant clusters of some words used to be pronounced as a single consonant in former time. 4. Some words which at present are written differently, for example, written with double letters and with a single letter, were originally the same words. 5. Two consecutive letters which at present are pronounced as initial consonants of two consecutive syllables might have been pronounced as initial consonant cluster of the second syllable.
