21 ครรชิ ต มาลัยวงศ์ วารสารราชบัณฑิตยสถาน ปีที่ ๓๗ ฉบับที่ ๔ ต.ค.-ธ.ค. ๒๕๕๕ Abstract Risk Sources for the Information System Development Karnchit Malaiwong Fellow of the Academy of Science, The Royal Institute, Thailand This paper discusses five important risk sources for the information system development, namely: 1) the organization who wants to develop a new information system, 2) information technology suppliers, 3) the organization who will develop the information system, 4) environment of the system development process, and 5) stakeholders of the information system. The paper then presents eight major risks which arise from the organization which wants to develop the system. These risks are 1) risks associated with high level management, 2) risks associated with requirement developers, 3) risks associated with the management of the implementing organization, 4) risks in the contract, 5) risks associated with system users, 6) risks associated with computer facilities, 7) risks associated with other relevant systems, and 8) risks as- sociated with the organization itself. Knowledge about these risk sources will help the implementing organization and the organization which is responsible for developing the information system to cooperate in order to reduce the risks and to ensure that the system development project will be successful.
