Abstract Verbs or Lexical items signifying action or state in Southern Thai Dialect (Mueang District) Vichin Panupong Associate Fellow of the Academy of Arts, The Royal Institute, Thailand This study aims to study the pronunciation and meanings of verbs or lexical items signifying action or state in Southern Thai dialect spoken in everyday life in Mueang District, Songkhla Province. This dialect is the author’s native language. The author collected 157 words from the paper entitled “Collection of Vocabularies in Southern Thai Dialect,” and analyzed their pronunciation and meanings, which were later compared with those of cognates in Bangkok Thai. It was found that some of the Southern Thai and Bangkok Thai cognates were identical, that others were similar in some aspects, and that the others were different.
