The Journal of the Royal Institute of Thailand Vol. 38 No. 1 Jan-Mar 2013 Abstract Suphasit Phraruang Khamklong by King Rama VI Chosita Maneesai Associate Fellow of the Academy of Arts, The Royal Institute, Thailand Suphasit Phraruang Khamklong is a poetic work written in Khlong, a Thai prosodic form, by King Rama VI to explain the proverbs in Suphasit Phraruang, which is believed to be the saying of Phraruang, the great Sukhothai king. From time to time has this well-known Sukhothai didactic been explained and interpreted, Suphasit Phraruang Khamklong is its latest reinterpretating version. Dissimilar to another, it focuses on the concept of Nationalism, emphasizing on the faithfulness to the nation and the king. Suphasit Phraruang Khamklong is written in the time when people donate their money providing a war vessel given name by King Rama VI “Phraruang”. On his opinion, this incident similarly reveals the unison of Thai people in the Sukhothai age, under Phraruang’s leading, when rebelled for their sovereignty against Khamer. Hence, Suphasit Phraruang Khamklong is not only a work explaining Suphasit Phraruang, it means to establish Nationalism and it is also a memorial to “Phraruang,” the war vessel, and the praiseworthy incident of unison among Thai people. Keywords : Suphasit Phraruang Khamklong, King Rama VI
