The duties include those involved with the preservation and betterment of the nation’s natural resources and the environment. Her Majesty Queen Sirikit has paid her attention to such a subject since Her Majesty was still a child and was inculcated with the subject’s related values by Her Majesty’s parents. The estate of Her Majesty the Queen at her early childhood was located near the Chao Phraya River, the picture of clean and fl awless water with abundance of species of aquatic plants and animals has still been imprinted in Her Majesty the Queen’s mind. Therefore, Her Majesty the Queen has always had desire for such a fl awless, beautiful and exuberant environment to be part of Thailand at present and in the future to come. Such a determination has a great in fl uence on Her Majesty the Queen in continuously and diligently undertaking several royal projects with such an objec- tive to preserve and improve qualities of plant genetics, animal genetics, and the ecology. Most of the projects under Her Majesty’s royal patronage have been successful. One of the main keys to such a success was Her Majesty the Queen’s manage- ment role with great deal of diligence, intuition, vision and remarkable aptitude. Therefore, it could be said that Thailand’s biodiversity has been carefully protected by Her Majesty the Queen performing the role as “a mother” guarding the country’s abundant species of fl orae and animals, water resources, forestry, and other types of natural environment. As a result, the country’s biodiversity can still be abundant and there can be a balance in Thailand’s ecological system. Such a success is a result of not only Her Majesty the Queen special interest on the subject, but also of Her Majesty’s benevolence to the Thai. Her Majesty the Queen wishes her subjects to live a happy life in a sustainable and self-sufficient way in compliance with His Majesty the King’s royal idea and practice keywords : Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the preservation and betterment of the natural resources and environment of Thailand, a happy life in a sustdinable and self-suf fi cent way. 1-22 Mac9.indd 22 10/8/13 7:07 PM
