On the battlefield and at home, Japanese-Americans … have been and continue to be written in our history for the sacrifices and the contributions they have made to the well-being and security of this, our common Nation. ………………………………………………………………….. I call upon the American people to affirm with me this American Promise--that we have learned from the tragedy of that long-ago experience forever to treasure liberty and justice for each individual American, and resolve that this kind of action shall never again be repeated. ๒๙ ต อมาใน ค . ศ . ๑๙๗๘ ชาวอเมริกันเชื้อสายญี่ปุ นได ร วมกันก อตั้งสันนิบาตพลเมืองอเมริกัน เชื้อสายญี่ปุ น (Japanese American Citizens League–JACL) และเรียกร องให มีการจ ายเงินชดเชย ให แก ผู ที่ถูกกักกันทุกคน พร อมทั้งคําขอโทษ หลังจากนั้นรัฐสภาสหรัฐอเมริกาได ตั้งคณะกรรมาธิการ เพื่อศึกษาข อมูล และคณะกรรมาธิการได สรุปความเห็นว า ให จ ายเงินชดเชยแก ผู เสียหายจากการถูกกักกัน ในเหตุการณ ดังกล าวคนละ ๒๐ , ๐๐๐ ดอลลาร สหรัฐ หลังจากนั้น ใน ค . ศ . ๑๙๘๘ รัฐสภาสหรัฐอเมริกา ได ผ านรัฐบัญญัติว าด วยอิสรภาพของพลเมือง ค . ศ . ๑๙๘๘ (Civil Liberties Act of 1988) ซึ่งลงนาม โดยประธานาธิบดีโรนัลด วิลสัน เรแกน (Ronald Wilson Reagan, ค . ศ . ๑๙๘๑ - ๑๙๘๙ ) กําหนดให รัฐบาล จ ายเงินชดเชยแก ผู เสียหายที่ยังมีชีวิตอยู รายละ ๒๐ , ๐๐๐ ดอลลาร สหรัฐภายในเวลา ๑๐ ป โดยไม ต อง หักภาษี แต เนื่องจากงบประมาณที่รัฐบาลตั้งไว ไม พอจ ายให แก ผู ที่จะต องได รับการชดเชยทุกคน ดังนั้น ใน ค . ศ . ๑๙๙๒ รัฐสภาสหรัฐอเมริกาจึงผ านกฎหมายเพื่ออนุมัติเงินเพิ่มอีก ๔๐๐ ล านดอลลาร สหรัฐ นอกจากนี้ประธานาธิบดีจอร จ เฮอร เบิร ต วอล กเกอร บุช (George Herbert Walker Bush, ค . ศ . ๑๙๘๙ - ๑๙๙๓ ) ยังมีจดหมายขอโทษจากรัฐบาลถึงชาวอเมริกันเชื้อสายญี่ปุ นที่ได รับความเสียหายทุกคนด วย ๒๙ “President Gerald R.
