This type of musical instrument has its origin in many countries around the world. Different types of phin have different shapes, but one common feature they share is that they must have strings attached in order to produce melodious music. At present there is a new type of phin which is “stringless but sounding.”. The purpose of this article is to trace the origin of this new phin and discuss whether it is possible.
