These similar words denote units of length and units of quantity. Words of length are derived fromwords meaning organs of the body like [nìw] and [s   k] or from words meaning motions of the organs like [kh   p] and [waa]. As for words of quantity, all of them are also derived from words meaning motions of the organs like [ji  p m  ] and [kam m  ]. In addition, the Thai and some languages in the Tai family, the word [chu  a] is used with other words such as words meaning persons and words meaning persons’ actions to represent period of time, length or distance. All examples in the paper demonstrate similarities between the Thai language and many languages in the Tai family.
