(www.arttherapyblog.com) . บทนิยามนี้พอจะสรุปความได้ว่า art therapy เป็นการบ� ำบัดด้วยการให้ผู้ป่วยได้ ท� ำงานศิลปะ เช่น วาดภาพ ปั้นรูป ท� ำให้ผู้ป่วยได้ผ่าน กรรมวิธีทางศิลปะ เช่น การวาดภาพสีชอล์ก การปั้นดินน�้ ำมัน และได้ ผลงานศิลปะ ออกมา โดยไม่ได้มุ่งที่ทักษะ ฝีมือทางศิลปะ ของผู้ป่วยแต่อย่างใด สรุปความว่าเป็น การบ� ำบัดด้วยศิลปะ ในความหมายเช่นนี้จะบัญญัติศัพท์ art therapy ว่า ศิลปะบ� ำบัด หรือ ศิลปกรรม บ� ำบัด จึงไม่น่าจะถูกต้อง ค� ำศัพท์ art therapy ประกอบด้วยค� ำ therapy ซึ่งเป็นค� ำหลัก กับค� ำ art ซึ่งเป็นค� ำขยาย ค� ำ therapy มีความหมายว่า “การบ� ำบัดรักษาอาการป่วยทางกายหรือทางจิตโดยการใช้วิธีทางอายุรเวท” (n. the treating of the physically or mentally ill by therapeutic means (Lexicon,1995: 1025) ตรงกับค� ำว่า บ� ำบัด ในภาษาไทย ซึ่งมีความหมายว่า “ก. ท� ำให้คลาย, ท� ำให้หาย, เช่น บ� ำบัดทุกข์, ท� ำให้ ทุเลาลง เช่น บ� ำบัดโรค” (พจนานุกรม ฉบับราชบัณฑิตยสถาน, ๒๕๕๔ : ๖๗๒) ส่วนค� ำว่า art มีความหมายหลายอย่างดังนี้ “การใช้จินตนาการท� ำสิ่งต่าง ๆ อันมีลักษณะทางสุนทรีย์ II กลวิธีที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการท� ำสิ่งต่าง ๆ อันมีลักษณะทางสุนทรีย์ II สาขาหนึ่งของงานประเภทวิจิตรศิลป์ II วัตถุที่ศิลปินนักสร้างสรรค์ท� ำขึ้นมา II ขอบเขตงานที่ใช้ฝีมือซึ่งมีความคิดสร้างสรรค์ เช่น ฝีมือซึ่งมีความ คิดสร้างสรรค์ในการต่อเรือหรือฝีมือในด้านอื่น ๆ, ทักษะการพูดเท็จ II สาขาหนึ่งของการศึกษาทางด้าน มนุษยศาสตร์ แยกกันชัดเจนกับทางด้านวิทยาศาสตร์ II ทักษะฝีมือ, เล่ห์เพทุบาย II สาขาวิชาหนึ่งของ การศึกษาที่เน้นทางพื้นฐานด้านวัฒนธรรม” (n. the use of the imagination to make things of aesthetic significance || the technique involved || one of the fine arts || objects made by creative artists || a sphere in which creative skill is used , the art of shipbuilding or other skill, the art of lying || one of the humanities (as distinct from science) || artifice, wiles || one of the liberal arts) (Lexicon, 1995: 52)
