408 Proceedings of the Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Congress Executive Summary for the Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Congress on the Interdisciplinary Approach for Research and Development 3 - 4 June 2015 IMPACT Forum, IMPACT, Muang Thong Thani, Nonthaburi, Thailand Organized by the Interdisciplinary Committee for Research and Development, The Royal Society of Thailand To celebrate the auspicious occasion of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s 5 th cycle birthday anniversary, The Royal Society of Thailand and the Interdisciplinary Committee for Research and Development hosted The Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Congress on the Interdisciplinary Approach to Research and Development on 3 - 4 June 2015. The Congress was attended by nearly 300 international and Thai participants and highlighted accomplished scholars and academicians’ interdisciplinary work in the sciences and humanities. The diverse and multidisciplinary nature of the keynote and plenary session talks showed comprehensive understanding of how to effectively use an interdisciplinary approach to address complex questions and in applied research. The first keynote speaker was Advisor to the Deputy Prime Minister in charge of Security Affairs, Associate Professor Dr. PanitanWattanayagornwho gave a speech on the vital role that the Thai Monarchy plays in national security and how it has brought generations of long-termstability toThailand. The second Congress activity was a panel presentation by highly distinguished panel members discussing HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s tireless efforts towards conducting and promoting an interdisciplinary approach in research and development. Moderated by H.E. Ambassador Kamthorn Sithtichoti, panel members Associate Professor Dr. Khunying Sumontha Promboon, Professor Dr. Santhad Rojanasoonthon, Fellow and Former President of the Royal Society of Thailand, Professor Emeritus Dr. Piyanart Bunnag, Fellow of the Royal Society of Thailand, and Mr. Hiroyuki Konuma, Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative of FAO provided an insightful and sincere conversation on HRH Sirindhorn’s long-term interest and approach towards interdisciplinary studies. Concurrent with the panel discussion on HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s work on an interdisciplinary approach in research, a press conferencewas given byDr. Pichai Sonchaeng, ViceMinister attached to the PrimeMinister’sOffice on “Andographis Paniculata Gel as an Adjunct in the Treatment of Periodontitis in Commercial Aspects”.The afternoon session beganwithDr. SeriWongmontha speaking on the role of education and good governance in corporations, civil service, community groups, and NGO’s as ASEAN continues its growth into a global leadership position. The defining moment of the Congress occurred on the afternoon of June 3 rd when HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn formally opened the Congress and provided comments on the importance of using an interdisciplinary approach in research and development.
