10 Proceedings of the Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Congress All three of these learning levels are required in the make-up of a transformative learning paradigm. Thai education in general, is stagnating at the informative level. Leadership Development Leadership, as a relationship process, is about the activities of leading: ‘His/Her Leadership inspired all of us’. Something to stay aware of is that a society is an organization and requires leadership to be proficient. Only three things happen naturally in organizations: friction, confusion, and underperformance. Everything else requires leadership. Dr. Peter F. Drucker 4 Leadership is also not intrinsically good. Using leadership for the common good or specifically for benefit of the leader or cronies is dependent on the character ethics and the agenda of the person wielding it. A transformative paradigm can be designed to instil a principle-centred life paradigm of lifestyle values and principles that have proven enduring value, as a guide to individual behaviours that are elementary in building good character ethics. Good character ethics based on universal social values are fundamental to leadership for the common good. A culture of broad-based leadership for the common good in society is fundamental to attaining andmaintaining a true liberal democracy. Walking the Talk of Transformative Education Where transformative education has been introduced in a widening range of schools around the world, students are not only becoming more innovative, collaborative, informed, and open to communication, but are also performing better academically, while at the same time school disciplinary incidents are declining significantly. That is exactly what many are calling for in outcomes of Thai education systems, but are being denied. A transformative education paradigm based on the concept that everyone is a leader, integrated with sound essential academics, can empower students to: l instead of waiting for things to happen, make things happen l work together in groups l be tolerant of differences l search for a third alternative when conflicts arise l plan for their daily activities and the future 4 Peter F. Drucker (November 19, 1909 -November 11, 2005) was anAustrian-bornAmericanmanagement consultant, educator, and author, whose writings contributed to the philiosophical and practical foundations of the modern business corporation.
