But they did not have honey beekeeping, especially honey by hunter who got form forest. Historically, hunters used traditional harvesting methods such as using fire and smoking beehives on the tree. People are well aware that a bee can strike humans with its poisonous spine. So they did not think about beekeeping. In 1979, United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) introduced the modern Beekeeping in Myanmar with the program on honeybee in tropical Asia. FAO program imported Honey Bees Species from US and Israel. The commercial honeybee, Apismellifera ligustica, sub species has been used inApiculture inMyanmar after being imported from abroad 1979. It is seeding for beekeeping for Myanmar. In 2013 - 2015 FAO (Myanmar) organized TOT training with the Technical Cooperation Program (TCP) Project “Royal Jelly Production in Myanmar”. Beekeeping in Myanmar The Beekeeping industries of the Republic of Myanmar started from 1979, according to program on honeybee in tropical Asia by the UNDP and United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO). Dr. Zmarlicki fromPolandwas chief of that program. To establish themodern beekeeping, Myanmar Trainees studied modern beekeeping practices from America, Australia, England, France, Israel and Japan at 1980 - 1983. The first modern Myanmar bee industry was startedwith 360 beehives fromUnited State of America and 35 beehives from Israel. In 1980 - 1981 Myanmar had approximately 1,000 bee colonies. According to Division of Apiculture (DOA), Department of Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department (LBVD), Ministry of livestock fisheries and Rural Development (MLFRD) in the 2013 - 2014 fiscal year there were approximately 100,000 bee colonies in Myanmar. The most beekeeping products in Myanmar are made by private sectors and some are making by DOA. DOA gives training to beekeepers and extension pollination services for farmers. Both DOA and the private sector have kept indigenous honeybees breed and European bees Breed. Myanmar has a land area of approximately 676,577 sq. km Private Beekeepers have kept approximately 6,000 indigenous breed colonies and 89,315 European breed colonies.
