280 Proceedings of the Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Congress cognitive thinking, and all of the thinking are embedded with cognition,” thus education should provide thinking skill for children at early phase of development as possible, and not made the children to practice only memorizing. Oneway for children to learn best is by having own experiences through sensory perception such as in touching, seeing, hearing, smelling, and tasting. Perception helps children to learn from the sensory base, such as the basic perception of seeing started with knowing the colors, forms, sizes and materials of the concrete objects around them, enable the children to play joyfully and interact with others things around them. Wiroon Tangcharoen ( 1996: 26) had said that “Sensory experience is emphasized on perception, good sensory leads to meaning way of living, all sensory on touching objects, feeling from seeing, distinguishing, smelling, are totally associated with preschool children development.” Therefore, it is necessary for having the children to practicemore use of sensory in creative way to stimulate their thinking and perceiving through appropriate activities andmedia that attract their motivation, in order to enhance their intellect with thinking skill, language skill, observation skill, classification skill, and sequencing skill, through sensory learning experience. For preschool children, their expressions occur in playing with toys, as whatever the children touch and feel they would have impact on the children’s creative thinking and emotion, which is the way they learn through sensory that driven their thinking process. Playing of children reinforces their intellectual as Stevanne Auerbach (2004: 138) said that “Block-shaped Toy is one of the best toys, children can often play the toy in lengthy time.”The block-shaped toys come in different colors and shapes, and can be used to enhance, language skill, thinking skill, and imagination. The toy supports the learning and perception on visual art elements, i.e., colors, lines, and shapes, in delightful and fun ways, through activities which interacted with objects surrounded, thus transformed such sensory experiences into perception and new knowledge, making the children express and learn effectively at the same time. Thus, block-shaped toy is a useful tool in children development because the children experience directly through playing, and so they practice to use their cognitive thinking. Therefore, the researchers studied on cognitive-thinking development theory and designing block-shaped toys that would incorporate visual elements in art to develop a set of block-shaped toys on the belief that the toys would enhance children’s cognitive thinking development. Besides the children playing block-shaped toys to enhance their cognitive thinking through observing, classification, ordering, and sequencing, they would also learn and improve their perception on the visual elements in art such as colors, lines, shapes, and textures of objects. Both are efficacy for our preschool children development. Objectives 1. To develop a set of block-shaped toys for the preschool children’s cognitive thinking development. 2. To compare the pretest-posttest results of the study on children’s cognitive thinking, before and after the block-shaped toys play intervention.
