The elephant co-operated well with treatment resulting in effective healing with wound closure. On January 31, 2006, the elephant could stand on its weight relaxing left front feet while walking. It returned home at Tak Province on May 27, 2006. 8. Pung Ma-Nguai-Lo (Female, 26 years old): Left front foot trapped by landmines Treatment: February 17, 2003 - Euthanasia on May 23, 2006 (Treatment period of 1,184 days) The explosion tore 70% of the sole of her left front foot. Interior of 2 toenails were damaged and left with only of 3 toenails. The wound was similar to those of Pung Jampen. In general, PungMa-Nguai-Lo was rather thinwith anemia, fungi on superficial body skin, bedsores, abscess on hips and both of cheeks. The trapped wound of left front foot was growth anomaly. That made the foot look like mushroom. Furthermore, the skin under plantar pad of right front feet became infected. Treatment of PungMa-Nguai-Lo could keep her under control. OnMay 21, 2006, the elephant laid down and could not stand on her feet freely. She needed pushing up and remained standing, taking food as usual. However, on May 23, 2006, at 5.30 a.m., the elephant abruptly collapsed. She was given the pushing up but very weak. Her trunk shook periodically but tail flapped, pupils dilated. After trial of rescue, the elephant could not respond the treatment. The team determined that euthanasia must be carried out to rest in peace. 9.
