239 Proceedings of the Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Congress Treatment: May 10, 2000 - Euthanasia on June 4, 2000 (Treatment period of 26 days) Plai Tong-In is a very fierce elephant resulting in difficulties in remedy. The elephant was weak, and infected. On May 31, 2000, the condition of the elephant worsened and laid down, took less food. On June 4, 2000, crane was needed to push the elephant up. However, he could no longer stand. Mrs. Soraida Salwala, the Secretary of Friends of Asian Elephant Foundation, in consultation with veterinary, keeper, decided to euthanize the elephant. The hospital proceeded with euthanasia to let him rest in peace at 4.25 p.m. on June 4, 2000. 5. Pung Mohe (Female, 29 years old): Left front foot stepping on landmines Treatment: February 2, 2001 - March 20, 2002 (Treatment period of 411 days) Result of treatment of Mohe was successful due to its good health, good temper, gentle appearance. The cow elephant co-operated well with the treatment. However, Mohe’s wound demonstrated remaining plantar region. He could use injured foot to help bear the body weight. Accordingly, the other feet did not get more sores. Co-operating well in remedy, presence of tissues infiltration was introduced and skin appearance got better. None of hematoma, infections were detected though incomplete wound closure, remaining 4 inches in length and 2 inches in width. The owner intended to bring Mohe home to welcome back with traditional ceremony, Soo Khawn ceremony. The veterinary, Dr. Preecha Phuangkum, Director of Medicine of Friends of the Asian Elephant Foundation allowed her to return home, on the condition that, the keeper must continue elephant wound healing. In case the wound was aggregated, the keeper must take her back for treatment immediately. On March 12, 2003, Veterinary went to check it up at Tak Province. The wound shrinkage was observed to about 3 inches. Mohe was quite healthy and lived in comfort condition. It reproduced 1 calf elephant.
