238 Proceedings of the Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Congress 2. Pung Motala (Female, 38 years old): Left front foot trapped by landmine Treatment: August 18, 1999 - present (Preferred by the owner, it had been handed- raised to Friends of the Asian Elephant Foundation) Treatment of Motala was different to other elephants. After analgesic was provided to Motala, wound dressing was carried out. At the first stage of wound healing, necrotic tissues were removed, while other parts permit natural healing by dipping feet and cleansing. The explosion tore 100% of her entire sole of left front foot causing the wound to float above the floor. Because, the elephant is old, effects of aging retard the wound healing. Motala had lost one of her front feet causing the other foreleg to bear double the weight (one feet usually carries 2/3 of the entire body weight). Prosthetic leg must be provided to help support its massive weight. 3. PungNoi or PungMokamao ( Female, 42 years old): Right rear foot steppingon landmines Treatment: October 31, 1999 - November 10, 1999 (Treatment period of 12 days) Based on the wound characteristics, Pung Noi or Pung Mokamao was the existing wound. (She had trapped by landmine since 1983). The elephant has not been given appropriate treatment. Naturally recovered, almost to normal skin, the wound took short period to heal and return home. 4.
