The Humanitarian Mine Actions Thailand Mine Action Center The center was established by the Royal Thai Government in 1997, under the Supreme Command Headquarters Royal Thai Armed Forces. Under this Center, there are Army and Navy Mine Action Units operating in the fields along the border of Thailand. Additionally there are training centers for landmine action, such as, the Mine Awareness Training Centers (one military and one civilian), the Mine Clearance Training Center, and two Mine Dog Training Centers (one Army and one Police Force). Civilian Mine Action Units There are at least four civilianmine action units inThailand, which are globally recognized. They have beenworking closelywith themilitary units.Their work is acceptable by the international standards. International Mine Action Units: The Norwegian People’s Aid Organization has been working with Thailand Mine Action Center from the beginning. Its activities include surveying, mapping, training, etc. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United States Military Assistance Programme, and the Japanese Technical Mine Detector Unit have been working in various activities of mine actions in Thailand. Mine Victims Assistance The Ministry of Health’s hospitals along with the military medical units have taken care of mine victims in medical treatment rehabilitation programmes for mine victims for humans and animals. The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security takes care of the cripple in training, financial aid, etc. General Chatichai Choonhavan Foundation also set up training camps along the border of Thailand for mine victims. There are many other private organizations that make artificial limbs free of charge for landmine victims. The foundation under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Mother has put endless efforts in helping landmine victims in various activities. Cambodian Mine Action Center: Along with the humanitarians mine action units inThailand, the CambodianGovernment has set up CambodianMine ActionCenter inCambodia under theMinistry of Public Information since 1997.The CambodianGovernment receives most support funding fromabroad in landmine
