231 Proceedings of the Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Congress OVERVIEW OF THE INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH PAPERS ON THE HUMANITARIAN LANDMINE ACTIONS Vasu Chanarat Abstract : The main objective of this study is to outline the essential parts of the humanitarian landmine action in Thailand, neighboring countries, and the international arena. Suggestions are set fourth for a five year (2016 - 2020) plan of research funding support, the International Graduate Diploma Programme in Mine Management, and the Establishment of Thailand Roles in the International Mine Actions (TRIMA). Introduction Humanitarian landmine actions compose of four major activities; the mine awareness program, the mine victims assistance program, the mine clearance program, and the mine areas development program.Those fourmajor fields, by nature, cannot be separated.The Interdisciplinary Network, therefore, interconnects them in the whole process. There were more than twenty organizations inThailand working closely together prior to 1997, the year that Thailand became a full member of the Ottawa Convention. Mine affected areas in Thailand are mainly along the borders with Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar. At the beginning, there were estimated 3,000 square kilometers of landmine infected areas, of which less than 500 square kilometers remain. II. The Ottawa Convention Ministry of Foreign Affairs presents research papers on the Ottawa Convention and other related documents on International humanitarian landmine actions, especially those at the level of the United Nations, supporting agencies, and donating countries. Problems concerning larger countries not yet signing the Ottawa Conventionwith reasons behind will also be presented in the research paper. Ten ASEANmember countries can play an important role in the humanitarian landmine actions to agree in the ASEAN Meeting jointly establishing Thailand’s Roles in the International Mine Actions (TRIMA) along with the establishment of the ASEANRegional Mine Action Centre (ARMAC) in Cambodia.
