219 Proceedings of the Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Congress also produced more LR related guidelines; they are: A Guideline to Land Release: non-technical methods latest edition (November 2008), A Guideline to Land Release: technical methods latest edition (April 2011). There have beenmany workshops and seminars concerning LR; one of them was the application of LR on September 2011 in Siem Reap of Cambodia that many state parties of Mine Ban Treaty attended to share and learn about LR from each other. As for the benefit to countries in this region in terms of sharing and transferring knowledge and best practices, the project implementation reports of best practices and lessons will be disseminated for regional application. 3. Objectives and success criteria 1. To clear/remove landmines from high priority minefield CHA no. 0387-01 with total area of 2,420,000 sq.m. in Surin province, Thailand; 2. To return safeland to local communities in proximity of minefield CHA no. 0387-01; 3. To guarantee zero landmine accident in returned land; 4. To allow temporary border trading to take place; 5. To develop best practice for the reduction of minefield suitable for countries in this region. 4. Success Indicators 1. Safe area for local communities’ uses is increased; 2. Zero accident in returned area is maintained; 3. Better economy in local communities is realized; 4. Cordial relations between people from two countries in the proximity of minefield is observed; 5. Best practices and lessons from the project are shared for regional application; 6. Better understanding and collaboration among local NGOs are enhanced. 7. Replicable model for mine action for ASEAN countries which is the updated LR Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) especially the Technical Survey which will discover various landmine laying patterns in border area of Thailand, will be disseminated to not only local mine action organizations inThailand such as PRO, but also other organizations in neighboring ASEAN countries such as CMAC and CMMA of Cambodia, UXOLao of Lao PDR, Mine ActionAuthority of Myanmar. The MRCT project shall post new SOP in TDA website, and try to contact GICHD if this document could be posted in GICHD website as case study in Thailand. 5. Methodology The project deploys the Land Release Process (LR) which is recognized and proven by many mine action authorities such as Cambodia Mine Action Centre (CMAC) and TMAC, and international mine action body such as Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining
