148 Proceedings of the Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Congress 1.2 Similar English program for comparison The following shows one of the programs that the author experienced the participation in the past. 1) English summer program offered by Michigan State University, USA almost 1 month (for Mie University, Japan) The author joined this program twice, one time as the sub-escort and the other time as the escort respectively. Student participants stayed totally almost 35 days, which costed totally one million Japanese yen (roughly equal to 330,000 THB. The program outline is shown below. Every year in summer almost 25 university students are accepted based on the program offered by Michigan State University. On weekdays they have to join English class in the morning, but in the afternoon they are free. Onweekends they are free too if no program is officially planned. During their stay the students visit two to three additional places such as Disney world in Orland, Ford Museum in Detroit and some countryside inMichigan State. English class everyday is managed by mainly TA (Teaching Assistant). This means English summer program is one of the big businesses for US universities. 2) English summer program at University of Tasmania, Australia This is basically the same program as MSU almost 1 month offered by University of Tasmania for Mie University, because Mie University changed the mind to provide the same program shifting fromMichigan State University, USA to University of Tasmania, Australia due to two reasons mainly. They are the followings, 1) Too much expensive total costs covered by student and 2) Less time difference between Japan and Australia in addition to less cost than USA. There are merits and demerits anyway in changing the host university. In case of US university, the total cost is expensive, but students can see and experience a big country, US how it looks like. Of course even for Australian university there may be similar ones. It seems to the author that this type of program is one of the business program of education including the trip to 2 to 3 places in Detroit, Michigan and Orlando, Florida, including the drop in San Francisco, USA on the way back to Japan. All participants were qualified. Some of the participants were interested in looking around and experience the stay in USAmore than the study of English, however it has no problem for them. One of themost different points of the programproposed here is focusing on the fully understanding of both English andThai cultures including university systems, therefore the program is prepared andmanaged in bilingual, Japanese and English to let the Japanese participants to understand even they cannot communicate in English, however Japanese language make them possible and happy to understand well. 1.3 Objectives The following is the objectives showing the reason why this program is really needed. l Program offer focusing on Japanese university officers and students to let them know and learn about Thai university together with Thai students participants l Further promotion of international program between Thai and Japanese universities l Program can play the same important role even for Thai university students
