85 Proceedings of the Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Congress 21 st CENTURY RESEARCH IN INTERDISCIPLINARY AGRICULTURE Sayam Aroonsrimorakot, SiriwatWongsiri, Niwuti Wangchai and Somkiat Jaturonglumlert Interdisciplinary Agriculture, Maejo University Abstract: 21 st century agriculture of the world shall be the significant aspect for human being in the near future while the world population now is 6.9 millions and it will reach 9.0 millions within 30 years.World food production also facing a lot of problems for example environmental pollution, climate change, hazardous substances in agricultural production to meet the need of human consumption, these are the limitation of world food production. The agricultural production trend shall increase the volume of food to meet the future need of population. The trend of agricultural production in the future shall include the development and application of science and technology especially the information and computer technology, automation, controlling technology and detection system, indoor agriculture production, bio-technology and genetic engineering technology and fabrication agricultural production operation to meet food quality and food safety production. The agricultural production not only food for human, but the production for energy, commercialization production, environmental friendly operation, these are the 21 st century trend for agricultural and food production. Keywords: Agricultural Development, 21 st century agriculture, Future agriculture, Trend of agricultural production Introduction Agricultural trend in Thailand and the world is dramatically going to change. From estimation the world population is currently 6.9 billion and it will reach 9.0 billion within 30 years. Continued population growth and accompanying increase in resource consumption threaten the world’s ecosystem, as well as straining humanity’s ability to feed itself, the loss of agricultural land to residential and industrial development, the environmental problems such as rising level of atmospheric carbon dioxide, global warming and pollution, industrial waste, climate change and other disasters such as storm, earthquakes. All these factors affected to the decreased crop yield and a challenge for mankind to overcome relentless. As you can be seen from the science of technology development especially in bio-technology, information technology, electronic and computerized development, automatic detector system, indoor and vertical agriculture and the use of advance genetic engineering are the future’s trends to increase more agricultural productivity for sufficient supply according to the human needs. As you seen, the advance of sciences and technologies could support the agricultural product such as the advance information technology and computer, electronic equipment, automatic detector system, indoor or vertical agricultural including biotechnology, the use of advance genetic engineering, fabrication agriculture, agriculture
