This paper aims at studying social welfare for children in Thailand. The paper will be divided into the following parts: 1) Introduction, 2) The meaning of social welfare, 3) Assistance for children in Thai society in the past with the focuses on the case of the Siamese twins (Eng and Chan and the establishment of child care center in the period of King Rama V, 4) Relevant issues on social welfare in Thai society, 5) Social welfare for children and 6) Conclusion. Thai society realize the values of children and child rights which the state and private sectors, family, religion and belief systems, and communities play role in developing social welfare for children in Thai society. At present, the importance of children has been the focus of the state after the Eight National Economic and Social Development Plan with people centered approach reflecting the implementations of plans concerning children. Continuously, the Eleventh National Economic and Social Development Plan follows along the same line as the Eight, the Ninth and the Tenth Plan. These plans refer to the philosophy of sustainable development and people centered approach for development including the balancing construction in development in all dimensions. The case of social welfare for children covers development of social institution preparation of immune in rural and urban areas based on the best interest of the child.
