ÚııÒ 145 √◊Ë πƒ∑— ¬ — ®®æ— π∏ÿå Abstract Enigmatic Stories from the Vajirayana Journal Ruenruthai Sujjapan Associate Fellow of the Academy of Arts, The Royal Insitute, Thailand Enigmatic stories constituted the format of early Thai fiction in prose printed in the Vajirayana Journal during A.D. 1988-1989. They were short narratives with no endings. Instead they posed questions how the characters could solve the problems and readers proposed the answers. There were several types of enigmatic stories emphasizing humor for the readers to enjoy, but most of them offered food for thought as intellectual activity. These enigmatic stories have social and literary values. They are important to modern Thai literature since they probably led to the composition of Thai short stories.
